I was listening to a wine podcast and it mentioned one important thing that a wine newbie should know: How to Preserve Wine

First we need to know why wine will go bad after a while. It is all because of the oxygen in the air, which will create oxidation with the wine particles. When that happens for more than several hours, wine will turn dull and eventually, vinegar-like. It reaffirmed that "newly opened wine should be breathed before serving" is a myth. The longer wine is exposed to oxygen, the worse it is for wine. The only time when wine should be in contact with oxygen is before drinking the wine. Swirling of the wine will allow oxygen to get into the wine. Swirl Swirling releases the esters, ethers, and aldehydes that combine with oxygen to yield the bouquet of the wine. In other words, swirling aerates the wine and gives you a better smell.

Most wines can still be good after a couple of hours. But that is the reason why we need to know how to preserve since we do not drink a bottle all the time, or have friends to come over for wine-tasting. So how to preserve wine exactly?
