Hi my name’s Peter and I love to travel. One of the great things about travelling is you get to meet all these people of... from different cultures and languages and you can get to try the different foods that’s available in these countries. For example, if I go to China and I go to a restaurant, you get different kinds of food which you do not get at home, that’s food from...er Beijing, that’s food from Shanghai if you go to Shanghai. You can try different types of food... er...if you like spicy food, perhaps another city like Chengdu or Chongqing will suit your palate.
One of these great things of trying it is that you get to understand the culture behind the food. For example, if you are in Chengdu and the food is spicy, the lookers will tell you that the food is so because the area is very humid and spicy food helps you to perspire which in turn helps you to get sick less and not to be out and about with flu.
The other time I was actually in Shanghai and er, a friend actually took me to a place called Lao Shanghai which is near some tourist spot. He introduced me to the local food there and the food was great, for example, I've been taking unagi...and I like this all my life but he actually introduced to me a dish which is actually made out of fresh eels. If you look at it, it’s a form of, fresh form of the unagi eel which is actually, I think, is pre-cooked and preserved and the taste was superb.
Now, as I was going through the meal, my colleague actually told me that...er...I should try some of the local food such as tofu as well. The tofu was great and we end up having a great time together eating the food and talking about old times...and I have known this colleague for a long time, for years, and, you know, that really made up...er...for all the hassle of travelling to Shanghai itself...er…Shanghai and Beijing...the other time I was in Beijing, my friend actually took me to a Beijing-nese, er...in fact...er...a restaurant serving Beijing-nese food.
