On Wednesday November 17, CGTN released a purported email from tennis star Peng Shuai, who has not been seen since accusing Zhang Gao Li of sexual abuse more than two weeks ago. Tennis officials have doubted the veracity of the email released by CGTN, in which Peng walked back her assault accusations while adding she was “resting at home and everything is fine.”
Women’s Tennis Association Chairman and CEO Steve Simon said he didn’t think the two-time Grand Slam champion wrote the email herself. “The statement released today by Chinese state media concerning Peng Shuai only raises my concerns as to her safety and whereabouts,” Simon said in a written statement. “I have a hard time believing that Peng Shuai actually wrote the email we received or believes what is being attributed to her.” "CGTN has three production centers, located in Nairobi, Washington D.C. and London ... In Peng Shuai's post a Chinese social platform on November 2, she wrote “Why did you have to come back to me, took me to your home to force me to have sex with you?” according to screenshots of the post, before it was removed within 30 minutes. Peng Shai has not been seen or heard from since, as state censors scrubbed mentions of the accusation from the platform. |

"The state’s bail recommendation in this case was inappropriately low in light of the nature of the recent charges and the pending charges against Mr. Brooks," District Attorney John T. Chisholm’s office said in a statement. It turned out that it was a court commissioner who agreed and cleared the way for Darrell Brooks' release. The Milwaukee Court commissioner is Cedric Cornwall.
A self-described "progressive," Chisholm has championed left-leaning reforms and previously acknowledged that his proposals could result in a person being let go and committing murder. Republican State Rep. Cindy Duchow reportedly said she would reintroduce a constitutional amendment changing Wisconsin's bail process. "He tried to run over his girlfriend with his car — that’s attempted murder," she said. "If you’re a danger to society, you should have to work hard to get out." The Milwaukee County district attorney's office now says it should not have recommended such a low bail for Brooks and have launched an internal review into the decision. "The State's bail recommendation in this case was inappropriately low in light of the nature of the recent charges and the pending charges against Mr. Brooks," the office said in a statement. "The bail recommendation in this case is not consistent with the approach of the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office toward matters involving violent crime, nor was it consistent with the risk assessment of the defendant prior to setting of bail." |
